I am not really up to speed on the race incident but having read the article, it reads like her personal space was invaded and she was made to feel incredibly uncomfortable at an event she should have been able to enjoy, and have memories of to treasure. While this is awful, it's not abuse. Racism, probably. And yes, I'm afraid Lady Hussey is of a generation that would not consider her remarks to be racist. It isn't an excuse, in her position she should by now, know better.

What happens to those of us who have suffered actual abuse? We retreat into silence. Our suffering becomes a private matter, unspoken about in public, not for public consumption. And going forward perhaps that is how we discern who is genuine and who isn't

Thanks for your comment Puds! And I totally agree on the impact of this language misuse on genuine victims. To be honest, although I didn’t want to get into it in the article, Ngozi Fulani has been uncovered as a rather unpleasant BLM activist and anti monarchist. She has previously accused Charles and Camila of ‘domestic abuse’ against Meghan!! Goodness only knows why she was even there. The whole thing has the whiff of a set up. But I can well imagine Lady Hussey might have been too persistent in questioning. I think her ‘sin’ was probably aristocratic arrogance rather than racism. But whatever the case, as you say, it’s not akin to domestic abuse or a ‘violation’. I do really despair at the way extreme language is just flung about these days!

Thanks so much for your support for my writing! x

I totally understand why you didn't go into the racist or not racist issue in your piece. I did exactly the same in something I wrote about it! There are other things at stake here and it is very easy to get caught up in the surface issues. Keep fighting the good fight - subbing now!

Ah, I didn't know that. I've seen Sistah Space on TV, when they were struggling to obtain premises. The RF is pretty dysfunctional tbf I can imagine most ordinary people would feel completely out of their depth. I share your despair.

Yeh the whole thing was a bit strange really. I find that the mainstream media has trouble presenting more ideas than one as true or plausible. For example, your comment is nuanced: the woman was made to feel uncomfortable, the older woman probably should have known better but let's also consider her age, and language is being misused so that it loses its original meaning (please excuse errors in my paraphrasing / understanding of what you wrote). All those things can be true at the same time! If only the mainstream media could appreciate and present such nuance. Anyone would think that maybe they don't want to... and their main mission is rile people up and get them to take sides. Sigh!

Thank you so much for reading my piece and for your insightful comment! I totally agree re. the mainstream media. Conflict and division has become their bread and butter. There also seems to be one ‘acceptable’ narrative on every issue. Nuance is definitely a casualty of that!
